Lebanon Is a Terror Hub

Modern Israel celebrates its 73rd birthday this week. Let me put my cards on the table: I’m not dispassionate when. In the 1960s and ’70s, the airport was the launching pad for some of the world’s most notorious airline hijackings and terrorist operations. In the 1980s, Hezbollah terrorists blew up aircraft on the tarmac; they hijacked American airliners, and murdered the hostages they seized. Beirut airport, located in the southwest part of the Lebanese capital, is adjacent to the slums and refugee camps that are Hezbollah’s historic stronghold. Hezbollah uses the airport as its own skirting border controls and security protocols to ferry people, weapons, and other forbidden items into Lebanon.

Iraq Declares Energy Crisis After Iran Slashes Natural Gas Exports

Iraq Declares Energy Crisis After Iran Slashes Natural Gas Exports 30 Dec 2020 Iraqi state media warned of a major energy crisis Tuesday due to reduced exports of natural gas from Iran. Although Iran denied political motives for the cutoff and said it was simply a question of Iraq running behind on its payments, the move was widely seen as an effort by Tehran to increase political pressure against Iraqi Prime Minister Mustapha Kadhimi during a time of tension between his government and Shiite militia groups supported by Iran. A deal to resume Iranian gas exports was reportedly reached Wednesday afternoon. Iranian officials insisted they have no desire to weaken or topple Kadhimi’s government, which appears to have won a power struggle with Shiite militia leaders by arresting several suspects in rocket attacks on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. Kadhimi’s government made a point of demonstrating defiance to the militias after they threatened revenge for the arrest.

Will Biden learn from Trump and keep making America secure again?

Will Biden learn from Trump and keep making America secure again? The U.S. president recognized threats and began to address them. (December 23, 2020 / JNS) “Build Back Better” was Joe Biden’s campaign slogan. How different is that, really, from “Make America Great Again”? Both BBB and MAGA suggest the need for restoration, for reversing deterioration and decline, for fixing what’s broken. In foreign and national security policy, President Donald Trump following eight years of President Barack Obama’s unwillingness to bolster the credibility of American power against America’s enemies achieved some significant successes. He also suffered some significant failures. In other areas, he made incremental progress which his successor can advance if he sees his task as building his own presidency rather than building back the Obama White House.
