The trench run scene is one of the most memorable in Star Wars.
But it borrowed heavily from a 1954 movie depicting a daring British air raid during World War II.
In 1977, Star Wars took the country and the world by storm.
One of its most iconic scenes was the trench run, during which X-Wing and Y-Wing fighters defy the odds to put proton torpedoes down a thermal exhaust port, running a gauntlet of Imperial fighters and gun emplacements to do so. Well, that scene wasn t exactly original.
That s right, folks. George Lucas lifted that scene from a 1954 movie, The Dam Busters and if you ve seen them both, it s painfully obvious.
Jacques dâAmboise, 86, Dies; Early, Charismatic Star of City Ballet
A product of Washington Heights, he embodied an all-American style, combining the nonchalance of Fred Astaire with the nobility of a classic male dancer. Hollywood came calling, too.

Jacques dâAmboise, who shattered stereotypes about male dancers as he helped popularize ballet in America and became one of the most distinguished male stars at New York City Ballet, died on Sunday at his home in Manhattan. He was 86.
He was calm, rational, and insightful. We can hardly applaud the practice of yellowface
1 with which the character has become associated, but we can at least separate him from the grotesque Asian villains generated by the Yellow Peril. He was a pop-culture hero to North American audiences in an era when the western mass media vilified people of Asian descent and the laws excluded them from public life. And, despite his broken English and love of fortune cookieaphorisms, the character did not speak pidgin, as has often been stated by those critiquing the character.
He is Charlie Chan, and he has been celebrated and reviled since 1925.
