IRON MOUNTAIN An Iron County Road Commission employee died in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Bates Township in Iron County.
The Michigan State Police Iron Post said troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash at about 2:14 p.m. on Bates-Amasa Road near Shady Lane. The investigation determined that a 57-year-old male from Newald, Wisconsin, operating a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup, failed to stop in a marked work zone.
He struck a road commission employee performing duties as a flagger, pinning him between the driver’s vehicle and the road commission vehicle next to the employee. The employee suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

A female was killed and a male injured in a UTV accident on Friday night in Iron County.
The Iron County Sheriff s Office says around 8:45 they received a report of an ATV crash with a female under water.
Authorities located the crash scene at Trail 13 in the Town of Carey around 10:00 Friday night where a UTV was found off the trail and partially submerged.
The male driver was transported from the scene by ambulance, but the female passenger died on scene, the sheriff s office says. Their ages weren t specified.

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP An Iron River woman died early Tuesday in a single-vehicle accident on M-73 in southern Iron County.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office received word of the crash about 4:30 a.m. at M-73 just south of Marinello Road. Killed was Jodi Lee Vanwagner, 34, the only occupant of the vehicle, according to a news release from Sheriff Mark Valesano.
No further details were provided. The accident remains under investigation. Assisting were the Michigan State Police, Iron County Search and Rescue, West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Victims’ Advocates and Aspirus EMS.
