ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. An 8-year-old has died after getting shot in the chest by a BB gun on Sunday in Alexander County.
According to the Alexander County Sheriff s Office, the shooting happened at a home in the Stony Point community.
Deputies said when they arrived on the scene, they discovered an 8-year-old child was struck in the chest with a single shot from a BB or Pellet gun. The child was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital. The child was then evaluated at Iredell and was transferred to Brenner’s Children’s hospital in Winston Salem.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. Investigators say an 8-year-old has died after being shot in the chest with a BB gun in Alexander County. The shooting was reported at a home in the Stony Point community on December 20th.
The child was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital and was evaluated before being transferred to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem. Officials say the child went into cardiac arrest while being transported to the children’s hospital. The child died a short time later.
The first batch of COVID-19 relief has finally made it to Iredell County.
The Iredell Health System announced Thursday evening that it had received its first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and had inoculated 25 health care workers with the plan to administer over 400 vaccinations before Christmas.
Twenty-five individuals from various areas of Iredell Memorial Hospital, including critical care, the emergency department, respiratory therapy and several other nursing units where COVID-19 patients routinely receive care, were inoculated.Â
âItâs a great day in health care,â said Dr. Joseph Mazzola, vice president of medical affairs for Iredell Health System. âWeâve been anticipating this vaccine for a long time, and weâre excited to be part of this historic effort to stop the spread of this deadly virus.â
