OCILLA, Ga. (WALB) - A man has been arrested on rape and child molestation charges in Irwin County.
Dewayne Vickers, 56, is being held at the Irwin County Detention Center after his arrest Monday.
The charges stem from an incident that happened in February or March 2016 at an Irwin County school, according to copies of the arrest warrants from the Ocilla Police Department. The victim was under 16-years-old at the time of the incident, according to the warrants.

At least 16 African and Indigenous women at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Ga. have come forward in the past couple months expressing grave concern over the gynecological “care” they received at the hands of Dr. Mahendra Amin who is known as the “primary gynecologist” there by ICE officials.

The Kentucky Foundation for Women awarded 44 Artist Enrichment grants totaling $164,960 to commonwealth feminist artists and arts organizations committed to creating positive social change throughout the state.
Burtonâs novel focuses on the eugenics movement of the 20th Century. Eugenics is the study of improving the qualities of the human population by discouraging reproduction by people with genetic defects or inheritable âundesirableâ traits or encouraging reproduction by people with inheritable âdesirableâ traits. As a result of this movement, thousands of people were involuntarily sterilized.

Dozens of immigrant women detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia have joined a class-action lawsuit against ICE over allegations they were subjected to nonconsensual and invasive gynecological procedures and surgeries that were later found to be unnecessary, and in some cases left them unable to have children. The lawsuit cites sworn testimony from at least 35 women about their treatment by Mahendra Amin, a physician in Ocilla, Georgia, and describes retaliation and threats of deportation for speaking out. “We have more than 40 women who filed sworn testimony in court despite consistent attempts by ICE to silence them,” says Azadeh Shahshahani, legal and advocacy director at Project South and co-counsel for women at Irwin who say they were subjected to these procedures. We also speak with two women who say they underwent unnecessary medical procedures: Wendy D
