Pakistan records highest kinnow export volume

KARACHI: Pakistan earned $253 million by exporting the highest-ever kinnow volume of 460,000 tons during 2020-21, as global demand for the fruit increased due to its immunity boosting characteristics.
Kinnow demand grew significantly across the globe due to its vital role in strengthening human immunity against the deadly Covid-19 disease.
During the export season concluded April 2021, Pakistan exported 460,000 tons kinnow to 40 countries globally, which was 30 percent higher compared to last year’s export volume of 353,000 tons. Pakistan earned valuable foreign exchange of $253 million through export of kinnow.
According to Waheed Ahmed, Patron-in-Chief, All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetables Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA), though the export target of kinnow for year 2020-21 was 350,000 tons, the country attained higher export volume due to extensive government assistance.
Pakistan Breaks Records for Kinnow Exports This Year
Pakistan has set a new record in its exports of kinnows it exported 460,000 tons of citrus fruit in 2020-21, which is the highest ever export volume of kinnows in the history of Pakistan.
A significant demand for Pakistani kinnows was observed during the pandemic and this is thought to have played a vital role in pandemic-related consumption owing to the fruit’s ability to strengthen the immune system against the coronavirus.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Commerce in consultation with stakeholders has agreed to take several measures for promotion of mango exports.
After extensive discussions at a virtual meeting held on Saturday and chaired by Commerce Adviser Razak Dawood, it was agreed that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will examine all the legal issues for operationalising the already-imported Vapour Heat Treatment Plant, presently lying at the Expo Centre Karachi.
Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) chairman Waheed Ahmad, farmers and exporters of mangoes also participated in the meeting.
