Victorville Daily Press Temperatures in the Mojave Desert and surrounding regions were expected to approach record highs Sunday and Monday and significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities, the National Weather Service said. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. Sunday to 9 p.m. Monday. The warning applied to wide area, from south of Twentynine Palms to north of Tonopah, Nevada. The agency has issued similarly urgent warnings for other parts of the West Coast farther north. Barstow logged an official daily high of 111 degrees on Sunday, just two degrees below the city s 1973 record of 113 degrees, according to a National Weather Service spokesperson.
