Illinois American Water Reminds Customers to Conserve Water

Illinois American Water is reminding customers to use water wisely. Annually, May 15 through September 15, residents are required to follow water conservation measures in the company s Northern Illinois operations.
These measures require watering of lawns and other outdoor uses to only be done on an odd/even watering basis. Customers whose street addresses end in an odd number may water only on an odd numbered calendar day and vice versa. These measures are approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission for communities that are supplied with Lake Michigan water or have a Lake Michigan water allocation.

A combination of major regional service interruptions, significantly increased water consumption, higher utility bills and a lack of effective communication during the pandemic have resulted in no change year over year in customer satisfaction with residential water utilities, according to the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Water Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study,SM released today. Overall customer satisfaction remains at 737 (on a 1,000-point scale) as usage has increased about 6% nationwide, and this year marks the first time that satisfaction has not improved since the study began in 2016.
“Between the massive weather event in Texas and the overall heightened sense of anxiety among consumers who have been spending more time at home and consuming more water, the past year has put local water utilities to the test,” said Andrew Heath, senior director of utilities intelligence at J.D. Power.

Beginning the week of May 7, Illinois American Water will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants in the DuPage service area of Lisle. Flushing will be performed during the day and is scheduled to continue throughout the summer.
Timing of work may fluctuate due to weather conditions.

Flushing the water system entails sending a rapid flow of water through the water mains.
