Regional superintendents address Illinois teacher shortage

SPRINGFIELD Following a February survey of school districts that illustrated a persistent teacher shortage in the state, the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools has released policy recommendations calling for better benefits and more lenient certification in an effort to reverse the trend.
The association, which serves as an intermediary between local school districts and the Illinois State Board of Education, had the survey conducted between September and October to see how school districts were faring with the supply of professional and substitute teachers during the 2020-21 school year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Fairfield National Bank says the Community Bankers Association of Illinois Foundation for Community Banking has selected Claire Kakac as a winner of a statewide scholarship contest. She has been awarded a one-time $1,000 award to be used for higher education next fall. Wayne City High School Senior Lainey McKinney was also sponsored by FNB and received Honorable Mention.

The Fairfield Park Board will meet tonight at 6. After a financial report and a report from Park Superintendent Chris Jenkins, the board is scheduled to set pool hours and rates. It is also scheduled to certify election results from last month, where Jay Fyie and Janie McDowell ran unopposed for six-year terms, and elect officers.
