Health officials report drop in Illinois COVID-19 infections

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Public Health on Tuesday show the COVID-19 infection rate in the state is improving for the first time in weeks.
The department reported 2,587 new coronavirus cases from among 62,406 tests administered for a positivity rate of 3.8%. It is the first time the positivity rate has fallen below 4% since April 6.
“Things are looking up a little bit,” Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said during an online question and answer session. “Just over the last three to four days, we’ve seen stabilization or just a little decline. … That’s exactly what we want to see.”

ILLINOIS Coronavirus infections are once again on the rise across the state, despite more than half of Illinoisans 16 and older having received at least one dose of the vaccine. State health officials blame vaccine hesitancy among the state s rural residents and risky behavioramong young people, but whatever the cause, it may mean delayed reopening or even new restrictions for some parts of the state.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Monday reported 1,959 new cases of the coronavirus and 22 more deaths from COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the virus. St. Clair, Madison counties see big drop in COVID deaths compared to last spring

St. Clair and Madison counties have reported a nearly 75% drop in COVID-19 deaths in April, compared to this time last month.
Madison County has reported seven deaths in April and St. Clair County has reported three. That s compared to 19 deaths in St. Clair County and 16 in Madison County by March 19.
In total, St. Clair County has reported 474 deaths from COVID-19 and Madison County has reported 490.
According to data released by the Illinois Department of Public Health on Monday, Madison and St. Clair counties have combined to vaccinate 320,989 people and fully vaccinated 145,545 against the coronavirus.
