The Delta variant currently accounts for 10 percent of coronavirus cases in the United States according to the CDC. Its trend toward becoming the dominant variant is concerning because “it is more transmissible than even the Alpha variant or the UK variant, which is now dominant in the United States,” Surgeon General Vivek Murthy told CNN.
The good news is a study from Public Health England found that two doses of a vaccine is “highly effective against hospitalization” by the Delta variant. The same study found that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is 96 percent effective against hospitalization for those who are fully vaccinated.
