The U.S. has seen a string of COVID-19 outbreaks tied to summer camps in recent weeks in places such as Texas, Illinois, Florida, Missouri and Kansas, in what some fear could be a preview of the upcoming school year.
The first local winner in Illinois’ All In For The Win COVID-19 vaccine lottery was announced Monday.
A vaccine recipient from Springfield was chosen to receive one of three $100,000 cash prizes based on drawings Monday.
The other two winners were from Quincy and Chicago.
The vaccine lottery was announced in mid-June to promote COVID-19 vaccinations. Information about where vaccinations are available is available at bit.ly/ILvaccinelocations.
Vaccinations are available to people 12 and older. In Illinois, 55% of people in that age group have been fully vaccinated, and 70% have received at least one dose of vaccine, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The U.S. has seen a string of COVID-19 outbreaks tied to summer camps in recent weeks in places such as Texas, Illinois, Florida, Missouri and Kansas, in what some fear could be a preview of the upcoming school year.
The recent death of a Sangamon County senior citizen with COVID-19 marked the first such fatality reported since May 4.
The July 9 death of a man in his 70s was among three days of statistics reported Monday by the Sangamon County Department of Public Health. The man had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 5, officials said.
Fifty-eight new COVID-19 cases among county residents were reported Monday for the three-day period that began Saturday.
Also Monday, the Morgan County Health Department said it received confirmation of the deaths of two county residents with COVID-19, both men in their 90s. who were at a hospital, and one man in his 50s who died at a nursing home.
