Travelers between Monmouth and Galesburg who utilize U.S. 34 will see potential delays as construction to replace a bridge begins next week.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says that starting on Monday, work will begin to replace the bridge that carries the four-lane highway over Township Road 162, otherwise known as 120th Street, about four miles east of Monmouth.
The bridge replacement will see traffic reduced to one lane in each direction during the project, which is expected to be completed by June of 2022.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Or, drivers should consider avoiding the work area, when feasible, and using alternate routes.
