Traffic on the outbound Kennedy Expressway was snarled Saturday as the highway was reduced to one lane while crews removed the last parts of the Montrose Avenue bridge for reconstruction.
All lanes and ramps on the expressway, with the exception of the Montrose entrance ramp, were open again by 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Kennedy was cut to a single lane Friday night starting at Diversey Avenue, with all traffic routed to express lanes by midnight for construction, according to IDOT.

SPRINGFIELD Illinois traffic deaths rose in 2020 despite reports of fewer people on roads across the state.
Preliminary reports indicate 1,166 people died in crashes around the state last year, an increase of 16 percent from 2019. The overall fatality number hasn’t been that high since back in 2007.

District 14 ISP to conduct Nighttime Enforcement Patrols

MACOMB Illinois State Police (ISP) District 14 Commander, Captain Jon Dively, announces the ISP will conduct Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols in Fulton County during March. NITE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at nighttime and combined with impaired driving means even more traffic deaths during these critical hours. Officers will strictly enforce violations including: - Driving Under the Influence (DUI); - Safety Belt and Child Restraint use; - Speeding; - Distracted Driving; and, - All Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Violations. Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Ov
