(Google Maps) SKOKIE, IL Staff at Skokie Public Library have filed paperwork with the Illinois Labor Relations Board to join the Service Employees International Union, the union announced Wednesday. A majority of eligible workers have signed authorization cards to be certified as part of SEIU Local 73, which represents more than 29,000 workers in mostly taxpayer-funded positions, according to a statement from the union. In a statement, library union organizers said they hoped to involve the voices of a wider array of workers at the decision making table to meet the needs of the community.

Rolling Meadows extends contract with public works employees   Rolling Meadows has inked a two-year extension to a labor contract with public works employees. The city council this week unanimously approved the agreement with International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. The pact calls for wage increases of 2.25% this year and 2% next year.   The new salaries represent the only changes to the original agreement, approved in July 2018 after the Illinois Labor Relations Board certified those city employees memberships in the union. The new deal runs through 2022.

Kendra Cunningham of Murrayville will continue to serve on the board, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Monday. Her reappointment must still be confirmed by the state Senate. Cunningham is a former staff attorney and business manager for the Illinois State Employees Association, Laborers’ Local 2002. She is a volunteer secretary-treasurer of Murrayville-Woodson EAS.
