NEW LENOX, IL New Lenox resident and St. Laurence student James Gurgone has been recognized as an Illinois State Scholar by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, according to a release from the school. Gurgone is one of 13 seniors to be named as a State Scholar at St. Laurence High School.
The school said it has one of the highest percentages of Illinois State Scholars among Catholic high schools in the southland Chicago area.
According to the school, Illinois State Scholars represent approximately the top 10 percent of high school seniors from 726 high schools across the state. Students given this recognition possess strong academic potential and are chosen based on a combination of exemplary ACT or SAT test scores and sixth semester class rank.

LEMONT, IL Lemont resident and St. Laurence student Riley Stone has been recognized as an Illinois State Scholar by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, according to a release from the school. Stone is one of 13 seniors to be named as a State Scholar at St. Laurence High School.

SPRINGFIELD â The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is pleased to announce the 2021-22 Illinois State Scholars. These top performing students are selected annually based on their ACT or SAT exams and sixth semester class rank and are recognized for their exceptional academic achievement. Illinois State Scholars rank in approximately the top ten percent of graduates from Illinois high schools.
State Scholars are usually announced in early December, however the postponement or cancellation of spring 2020 college entrance exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this yearâs announcements until complete data was available.

Birds of a feather: Geese to change gown colors

Next year s Wethersfield High School graduation will be going green, in keeping with the changing climate of colors traditionally used for the gowns and caps seniors wear when they cross the stage to receive their diploma.
The Wethersfield Board of Education, at its May meeting Monday night, approved a recommendation from junior-senior high school principal Carrie Griffith, to change to one gown color for both boys and girls.
For years male graduates have worn green attire and females have worn white, representing the school s colors. Caps had a combination of green and white tassels.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL For over a year, education around the world has been changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whether its was online instruction, hybrid models or even relating academics to current events, the education of students everywhere has grown or changed in ways nobody saw coming.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission released its list of state high school scholars earlier this month. The ISAC has been announcing the scholars for over 60 years, and the recognition is given to the top 10 percent of high school seniors in the state of Illinois.
