President Cyril Ramaphosa is working in earnest to secure the buy-in of interfaith and religious leaders in government s rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The President met with religious leaders on Sunday night following a meeting of the Presidential Coordinating Council and Cabinet.
Speaking to News24, Mary Kluk, President of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies, said their meeting with government focused largely on the vaccine. Other topics on the agenda were the uncertainty around schools reopening, as well as the alarming Covid-19 figures owing to the new variant.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for a review of the legislation to combat alcohol abuse.
He said the temporary restrictions that were placed on the availability of alcohol under the state of disaster regulations demonstrated the extent to which abuse of alcohol fuels violence, trauma and reckless behaviour.
Ramaphosa said foremost on the government s agenda for the year will be geared towards combating the spread of the coronavirus.
