Presumptive Senator-elect for Gbarpolu County, Botoe Kanneh, expresses gratitude
Botoe Kanneh, Gbarpolu County’s presumptive Senator-elect, has hailed women rights advocates for her victory among nine male political candidates if the National Elections Commission’s final result will render her the victory.
Since former President Charles Taylor established the county, Madam Kanneh is the first female to contest in an election to become a presumed winner after contentious electoral disputes that led to the re-run of the process.
Madam Kanneh in an interview told
Daily Observer, “I could have fallen prey for the second time had it not been for those women who stood up to ensure that my victory comes to pass.”
Young Women Christian Association YWCA in the northern region has revealed that 1,128 cases of gender based violence (GBV) in the northern region were recorded in the year 2020.
YMCA Northern Region Coordinator, Sharon Chisanga in an interview said the highest cases of GBV recorded in 2020 were as a result of marital disputes which was followed by child neglect.
Mrs. Chisanga said that it was unfortunate that the northern region has continued to record high number of GBV and YWCA also recorded high numbers of women reporting that their children are being neglected by their fathers who are failing to support them.

Monrovia – The Executive Director of the Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP), Brenda B. Moore says the prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) should start with providing awareness on SGBV to children. This, she said would help them speak out when they are abused.
Madam Moore, at the launching her new book, “My Body, My Treasure” said it is difficult to explain about the prevention of SGBV to kids, but urged parents and schools teachers to do the outmost best in educating children about SGBV.

The Executive Director of the Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP), Brenda B. Moore, has launched a new book intended to educate parents, kids and school authorities to ending Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and abuse across the country.
The book was launched on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in Congo Town with a huge commitment from government officials, ensuring the book’s inclusion in the country’s national curriculum.
The book titled, “My Body, My Treasure”, is Liberia’s first early childhood educational material designed to give young children and parents the understanding of how to prevent SGBV and to create awareness.
