Green Bay School District Joins Vaping Lawsuit By Casey Nelson
May 11, 2021 | 10:31 AM
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) The Green Bay Area Public School District is joining a mass action lawsuit against a maker of vaping devices.
A Board of Education vote on Monday night put the district on board with other Wisconsin school districts in the suit against JUUL Labs, Inc., filed by San Diego law firm, Frantz Law Group.
“They intentionally marketed their products to children, failed to warn about the harms of this product, and now school districts are having to deal with this issue on their campus on a daily basis,” said William Shinoff, the trial attorney with Frantz Law Group. “Public entities like school districts have the right to seek remedies to be able to deal with this issue appropriately in the future, and not have to use taxpayer funds to deal with the problem that these companies created.”

likely finished up its work for this legislative session and approved a final flurry of bills prior to its April 6, 2021 deadline for approving and advancing bills out of committee. Here is a summary of the bills approved by the Education Committee (which now await action by the full General Assembly).
“TUITIONING OUT” ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
S.B. No. 1036 (“
An Act Authorizing Boards Of Education To Pay Tuition To Another Board Of Education For The Purpose Of Enrolling Its Elementary School Students In Such Other School District”) would allow a local board of education to pay tuition to another school district for sending its elementary and middle school students to that other school district (in lieu of the sending board operating its own schools for the grade levels involved). Currently, a local board of education that does not maintain a high school has that authority with respect to high school students.

Our deepest sympathies go out to all of those who are still reeling from last weekendâs tragic death of a Rockingham teenager in a suspected drunken-driving incident in Putney. The teenager who was driving could face multiple charges in the crash.
In this one instant of poor judgment and reckless behavior, one teenager is dead and anotherâs life is forever scarred, while countless friends and family members are left to grieve and wonder why. Sadly, they arenât the first. Folks in the Bellows Falls area dealt with a similar tragedy two years ago when a local teen was killed after the car his friend was driving crashed into a tree. Speed was a factor in that crash.
