• Restates call for independent panel of inquiry
A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), has condemned the decision of the Lagos State Panel of Inquiry on EndSARS protests to return possession of the Lekki tollgate to Lekki Concession Company (LCC).
It said the decision undermined the demand for justice by Nigerians, as the issues surrounding the tragic events of October 20, 2020 had not been resolved, pointing out that the decision was an attempt to deny the youths justice.
The group, in a statement, yesterday, signed by its National Co-ordinator, Adaramoye Michael and Secretary, Francis Nwapa, said that the Lagos State panel, on the basis of lacking independence and democracy, was not capable of ensuring justice and bringing to book all those culpable in the Lekki shooting and killing of protesters in the country before and on October 20, 2020.
Also, private schools owners under the aegis of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) stressed the need for the government to keep schools open, so as to prevent the total collapse of the private education sub-sector.
The President of NAPPS, Chief Yomi Otubela, last week stated that the association has put in place its internal monitoring committee to ensure private schools in the country continue to adhere to the recommended COVID-19 safety protocols .
The Lagos State Government similarly had on Friday affirmed its earlier pronouncement that all public and private schools in the state below tertiary level should resume on January 18, 2021 for the second term 2020/2021 academic session.

More groups have condemned the detention of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and four others by police.
The activists were whisked away by police operatives at Gudu junction in Abuja during a protest tagged #CrossoverWithProtest on December 31, 2020.
The protest held in some states of the country.
Participants were seen on
Twitter carrying candles and placards to show their grievances against the current government of the day.
Mr Sowore was reportedly brutalised before being forcefully dragged into one of the seven vehicles mobilised to the protest ground by police.
