Washington County 4-H Pancake Breakfast Returns Saturday

Washington County 4-H’s largest fundraiser returns this Saturday after an absence in 2020. The Pancakes & More Breakfast Fundraiser will last from 7-10:30 a.m. in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and a drink will be served, and dine in or carry out will be available. 4-H/Youth Coordinator Amy Green is excited to be able to hold this event again, which raises funds for the 4-H members’ enrollment fees, “It is honestly just a great timing for spring, people are excited to be out, the weather is always good. It’s one of my most favorite days on the fairground to have so much activity going and it really kind of gears up for summer’s coming and this is what it’s going to be like when the fairground is busy and lots of traffic and activity.”

Washington County 4-H Busy Preparing for 2021 Fair

The Washington County Fair is about three months away, and the county 4-H schedule is getting increasingly busy with planning meetings for livestock and static events. The next project meetings for dog and sheep projects are scheduled for this Saturday and April 22nd, respectively, and Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator Amy Green shares some other meetings that have been held in the past month, “March got busy, we had a big workshop weekend and we were doing all kinds of non-livestock workshops and then we also really kicked up our activity with livestock as well. Spring is also the time where many of those 4-H livestock projects would start and so this March we have done things with our swine department, bucket bottle department, rabbit department. They’ve all been meeting at different times in different ways to get information to kids.”

Washington County Celebrating ISU Extension Week with Alive After Five Event

The Washington County ISU Extension and Outreach office is partnering with the Washington Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Extension Week with an Alive After Five event. The open house will take place from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13th at the extension office located at the Washington County Fairgrounds, and will include interactive and informational booths to showcase what extension does for the community. Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator Amy Green shares how it feels to be hosting an in-person event over a year since the pandemic began, “It has been an interesting year following a lot of important safety procedures and expectations from Iowa State University, and we now are in a place where we can be together and be safe and do that well. And so we’re excited to have all of those things kind of picking back up again and we’ve learned a lot along the way and so we’re applying all of that as we move forward as well.”
