• Mar 13, 2021 Gila Earth Day will be celebrated throughout April, providing a variety of opportunities to take action on behalf of our planet. The international theme for this year’s event is “Restore Our Earth”, and the Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) and Gila Earth Day planning committee are organizing multiple activities: virtual programming from participant organizations, classrooms, and individuals throughout the month of April; a virtual book tour discussion with Laura Paskus author
of At the Precipice New Mexico’s Changing Climate on Thursday, April 22; and small, COVID-safe community actions around the region on Saturday, April 24.
PENDLETON â The Heppner Ranger District is recruiting four students between the ages of 15 and 18 for summer employment in the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). Work can include noxious weed removal, fence removal and construction, trail maintenance, meadow restoration, campground maintenance, slash piling, marking timber, removal of tubing from tree seedlings, and fireline construction around logged units on the Heppner Ranger District.
The program will last six weeks beginning June 21. Youths are paid the Oregon minimum wage rate of $11.50 per hour (effective July 1, the wage rate will increase to $12 per hour). No previous experience is required.
To apply, all interested candidates must complete and submit a signed application. Hardcopy applications can be picked up at Forest Service offices in Heppner and Pendleton and at local high schools. Lincoln Ranger District now taking applications for Youth Conservation Corps summer program

GREAT FALLS â The Lincoln Ranger District of the Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest is now accepting applications for their Youth Conservation Corps summer employment program.
The program is for teens in the Lincoln area ages 15 to 18 who are interested in forest conservation and stewardship.
The summer employment program was established in 1971, providing entry-level jobs for local youths, and this year will be the first time Lincoln has hosted the program.
Up to five participants will be selected for the nine-week program that will run from June to August, and will be paid $10 an hour biweekly.
Yellowstone National Park is recruiting for the 2021 Youth Conservation Corps, a residential work-based education program for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 18.
