Friends and family of KZMU!
Radiothon is just around the corner and we’re welcoming the Spring with many things to be grateful for: our DJs are nearly all back in the booth, doing their shows live; our Board of Trustees has grown by nearly 75% as we welcomed three new members of the community into our ranks and bid adieu in gratitude for decades of service from Michele Blackburn; our program schedule has filled out with several new DJs offering everything from electronic dance to multi-ethnic rhythm forward deep dives and straight ahead punk rock. Our Youth Program offerings are growing rapidly including welcoming a high school intern! So many things are happening, it’s almost too much to list in this post, so here’s a link to our Radiothon Newsletter! (KNSI) – April is “Month of the Military Child,” and Minnesota offers several programs for kids whose parents serve in the armed forces.
Governor Tim Walz proclaimed on Friday, “By recognizing Military Child Month, we pay tribute to military children for their commitment, sacrifice, and unconditional support for our troops,” according to the proclamation.
It is estimated that more than 23,000 children in Minnesota have at least one parent or guardian currently serving on military duty.
Today, nearly 2,000 Minnesota National Guard members are deployed, and many of them left behind children at home to serve.
The Minnesota National Guard’s Child & Youth Program seeks to connect those youth and provide a network of support for them, so they know they are not alone.

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – Children of military personnel are getting some much-deserved recognition.
The Wisconsin National Guard Child and Youth Program are celebrating the Month of the Military Child.
The program provides activities year-round for children in National Guard families.
There are numerous events that will be held over the month.
The theme of this year’s events is “Being Your Own Superhero”.
Kids will learn how to turn their feelings into superpowers and find their inner heroes.
The event helps build a community where children of service members can express both their pride and anxiety about their families’ military service, and have a community to support them.
