Hamilton Finds New Sound With Musical Talent Show

New Found Sound for 2021! A youth music showcase event, New Found Sound will be running at The Meteor on May 14, 7pm with the support of De Stylez Music Studio and Youth Week. Raise Up is the YMCA’s Youth Development Programme and is made up of a crew of youth from across Hamilton who meet once a week to create and run events for youth in their community. New Found Sound is one of these events and will be returning to The Meteor Theatre for second year running as part of Youth Week 2021. A musical talent show for youth aged 13-18;

Meanwhile, in another threat facing the world’s population, the planet kept getting hotter; 2020 tied for the hottest year that humans have ever experienced. Yet, it is likely that 2020 will be one of the coolest years in the next 100 unless we change course quickly. As Earth Month (April) begins, many educators are focused on how to engage students on this critical issue. This April, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is helping overworked teachers, from every subject, bring climate change into the classroom. This opportunity is not just for environmental science classes. Climate change touches every discipline: psychology, political science, engineering, literature, natural science, art, communication, music, economics, philosophy and more.

Guidelines being revised for E&P companies training fund

Daily Times April 1, 2021 The government is in process of revising the guidelines to ensure more effective utilization of E&P companies’ training fund in skill development of the petroleum sector workforce and carrying out educational activities in surrounding localities of their respective oil and gas producing fields. “Recently, the Petroleum Division has constituted a committee under Special Secretary for developing a plan to utilize the Training Fund,” a senior official privy to petroleum sector developments told APP. He said a comprehensive utilization plan was being developed so that the desired objectives of the training fund could be achieved. Accordingly, he said, “The revision of existing Training Fund Guidelines, including preparation of a training plan for employees of Petroleum Division and Provinces, and a Youth Development Programme to provide scholarships and internships for local inhabitants, is in process.”

Sophumelela Ketelo, Word and photos by LUTHANDO MPOFU On 26 February 2021 Sophumulela Youth Development Programme (SYDP) hosted its annual Love Day event. The event is meant for learners to show love to each other while addressing the stigma some boys have about menstruation. The organisation, through the public’s generous donations of sanitary towels, roll-on deodorants and soaps was able to also add black shoe polish for boys this year. Grade 12 learners from Khutliso Daniels, TEM Mrwetyana and Nathaniel Nyaluza left with packages on Friday.
