“The lloilo City COVID Team recommends that non-essential travel be strongly discouraged,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas in a public advisory after the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Iloilo City Health Office had traced positive COVID-19 cases this month to people who had “travel history from neighboring provinces and cities with high numbers of COVID-19 cases.”
The advisory did not specify places, but Bacolod City and Negros Occidental had been recording hundreds of new cases since middle of April.
In the advisory, non-essential travelers are those who travel purely for leisure and not for authorized travel such as business, work, or humanitarian reasons.
