Another 370 claimants filed proof of claim forms saying the Archdiocese of New Orleans owed them millions of dollars for other reasons, from outstanding utility company bills to accidental falls on church property.
The New York-based firm processing the compensation demands received at least 56 claims in which the claimant’s name and address was intentionally omitted, a likely signal those were filed by anonymous clergy abuse victims.

Dear Abby: My husband and I have been close friends with a woman named “Louise” for five years. Recently, we were all hanging out, and Louise got very drunk and tried to massage lotion into my husband’s hands. She also hugged him and wouldn’t let go, although he put his hands at his side and his whole body stiffened.
My husband has expressed to me that these situations made him very uncomfortable, and they do the same to me. We talked about letting Louise know, but he felt it would only make her feel awkward around us.
In the interview, deWater said his unnamed accuser described going “many, many times” with him to swim at an unknown location across Lake Pontchartrain. He said the accuser claimed they were naked together, but deWater said they changed into swimsuits separately.
“I was not about anything just to see his behind naked at all. I would not be interested in that,” he said, later adding, “I am certainly not younger people going to sit with my nakedness.”
He then said, starting in Dutch and then switching to English: “There was no sin, nothing in the swimming pool.”
He did acknowledge one allegation detailed in the letter from the archbishop: that he purchased two swimsuits for the boy that were “popular to wear.”
