Audiences have come together to celebrate this year’s series of Strictly (BBC)
W
e’ve long been told that live TV is on its way out. Most of the biggest shows of the year –
Tiger King,
Normal People,
The Queen’s Gambit – were consumed online in one sleepless sitting. But they failed to capture that magic of tuning into something knowing that your friend is doing the same thing, at the same time, in their own home. When we look back at the TV shows that defined the coronavirus pandemic,
Strictly Come Dancing 2020 should be remembered for showing the importance of live-event TV and its ability to bring viewers together.
Drag Race Season 13, which airs in January.View Story
Some of those performers may not stick around long, with the very first episode forcing six of them to lip sync for their lives.
And thatâs not the only drag show set for January.
Drag Race UK will premiere on January 14, and cast members include Asttina Mandella, a London dancer whose resume includes performances with Little Mix and Kanye West; Cherry Valentine from Darlington, who describes herself as âa beautiful lady possessed by the devil,â and fashion designer AâWhora.
Thereâs also a Scottish performer, Lawrence Chaney, who says sheâs âa mix of Rab C Nesbitt and Susan Boyle.â Bimini Bon Boulash is one of Drag Raceâs rare non-binary performers, as is Ginny Lemon. Joe Black, a popular British burlesque performer, is sure to turn heads as well.
WORCESTER S own Ginny Lemon is back on our screens as one of the 12 queens competing to be crowned the UK’s next drag superstar on the second series of BBC Three’s Drag Race UK. Ginny Lemon, 31, will be trying to impress RuPaul, but they have already faced a fearsome panel of judges. The drag queen made it to boot camp on The X Factor in 2017 after a very unique performance of Just A Little by Liberty X in the auditions. Ginny, who has the signature catchphrase fancy a slice? , burst onto TV screens saying - I m from Worcester- just like the sauce , during auditions held at Thorpe Park in Surrey, Greater London.
