THE onus to attempt to reverse the damage brought on by climate change is on each of us, says the Johor chapter of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
UNGC Network Malaysia and Brunei’s Johor director Edey Suresh said concerted effort from both the public and private sectors, as well as the community at large, was needed to fight climate change.
“In Johor, companies, for the most part, have freely emitted carbon. This attitude has to change.
“Companies that persist in treating climate change solely as a corporate social responsibility issue rather than a business problem, will risk losing investors and affect stakeholder demands.

Iskandar Malaysia Region Testing A Bus Rapid Transit System

The Iskandar Malaysia Regional Development Authority (IRDA) has started a pilot testing programme for a bus rapid transit system (BRT). This pilot test will run for three months using electric and biodiesel-based green technology buses from nine local and international bus suppliers.
The pilot project will test the capabilities of the buses as well as the use of green technology on the suitability to modernise the public transport system in Johor. IRDA and related agencies will also conduct assessments, collect feedback on the effectiveness and safety of the buses as well as obtain approval for its actual use in the future.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The government is confident that the country’s economic growth forecast of between 6.0 and 7.5 per cent targeted for this year can be achieved if the Covid-19 situation takes a turn for the better.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (pix) said this was supported by several positive signs showing that the country’s economy was heading towards recovery.
“Regardless, we are confident of Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) forecast of 6.0 to 7.5 per cent growth, as well as that of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of 6.5 per cent, this year.
