US President Joe Biden’s climate summit kicks off on Thursday with hopes of securing pledges from dozens of world leaders on cutting heat-trapping gas emissions and curbing global warming.
Mr Biden is expected to unveil new carbon dioxide emission targets as part of the two-day virtual Leaders Summit on Climate and to pledge money to help smaller economies fight climate change and adapt to a warmer planet.
The US also wants its guests to follow suit and scale up plans for cutting pollution and preventing future climate-related challenges. China, Russia, Canada, India, Germany, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other big economies are among those attending the summit.
