Egypt and Israel held high-level talks in Cairo and Tel Aviv on Sunday to discuss a permanent truce between Israel and militants in Gaza, after a temporary ceasefire was agreed on May 21.
In Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, met as part of what the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said were continuing efforts to “resurrect the [Palestinian-Israeli] peace process and to build on the ceasefire in Gaza”.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said Mr Shoukry spoke about the “necessity . to halt practices that lead to tension and escalate confrontations”.
Thank you, FM #Sameh Shoukry, for your invitation to visit #Egypt, the first formal visit of an Israeli FM in 13 years.
