BIRD Foundation issues $4 million for joint U S -Israel clean energy proposals

The U.S. Department of Energy has partnered with the Israeli Ministry of Energy and the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) and announced on Tuesday that $4 million in available funding for joint Israeli-American clean innovative energy technology initiatives. The funding is from the Binational Industrial Research & Development (BIRD) Energy program, which promotes U.S.-Israel partnerships aimed at bringing efficient innovative technologies to the market.  Established in 2007 by the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act, the fund supports R&D projects which benefit both countries, and is focused on commercializing sustainable energy initiatives that encourage competition, create jobs, and bolster energy security. From 2009-2020, the foundation funded 55 projects through a joint government investment totaling $42 million with an additional $55 million matched by the private sector, attracting venture capital and other investments to help commercialize the sector. New financing will support company’s R&D and propel continued expansion in the U.S. [Tel Aviv, Israel – March 17, 2021]  Flytrex, a leader in on-demand drone delivery for food and retail, announced today the closing of an $8 million financing led by existing investors Benhamou Global Ventures (BGV) and btov. The financing complements a recently awarded grant from the Israel Innovation Authority for a total of $9.3 million. The funds will be used to expand Flytrex’s footprint across the U.S. and to continue to scale-up the company’s production and R&D capabilities.  The financing follows the company’s previous round in 2019, bringing total funding to $20.3 million.

CTech – A new initiative to bring Israeli high-tech workers who are employed abroad to return to Israel will kick off next Wednesday on Mar. 24 at a virtual Zoom meeting event. Israeli high-tech workers who have returned to the country will discuss new work opportunities, and present a variety of positions at active R&D centers in Israel. The Back2Tech project was initiated and funded by the Israel Innovation Authority and is designed to answer the overwhelming shortage of high-tech workers, and facilitate an easier return for them and their families as well as promising them a secured position at a trusted company. During the course of the meeting, those who have returned will share their stories and the processes they underwent.
