IHC seeks lawyers responses in Chief Justice Block storming case - Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sought a reply from the incumbent president of Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Raja Zahid Mehmood as well as 20 other lawyers in connection with storming the Chief Justice Block. A three-member IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah directed the lawyers to submit their respective replies by March 29. Raja Shafqat Abbasi contended before the court that this matter should have been dealt at the Bar Council level on the very first day, but the delay made this issue more complicated. Justice Minallah remarked that he wanted lawyers to bring the truth on the surface by themselves.

SC orders demolition of illegal chambers of lawyers Top Story March 3, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered demolition of illegal lawyer chambers, established on a football ground, footpaths and greenbelts in the federal capital. Shoaib Shaheen advocate informed the court that several courts had also been built on the ground, to which the chief justice ordered that those courts should also been demolished. The CJ repeatedly asked Hamid Khan to give a specific timeframe for vacating the ground from illegal occupation, but he, instead of giving a timeframe, pleaded for halting the demolition process till lawyers move to a new high court building.

• Islamabad Bar Association counsel gives undertaking to vacate football ground in two months • IHC suspends licences of 21 lawyers for storming court building on Feb 8 ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the nod to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration of Islamabad to remove lawyers’ chambers as well as courtrooms illegally constructed on the football ground in F-8 within two months. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the licences of 21 lawyers who stormed into the Chief Justice Block on Feb 8 after the CDA demolished their illegal chambers. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sayyed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, dismissed an appeal filed by the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) against the Feb 16 decision of the IHC to remove the illegal constructions.
