Positivity rate jumps to 15 51pc in Pindi

August 4, 2021 Rawalpindi : As many as 343 new patients were reported positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 in the last 24 hours from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district while another four patients died of the illness from the region taking the death toll to 1843. It is, however, alarming that the positivity rate of COVID-19 from the region has been on a continuous increase. In Rawalpindi district, the positivity ratio has jumped to over 15.5 per cent in the last 24 hours, which is the highest positivity rate recorded in Rawalpindi in a day in 2021. In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid informed ‘The News’ on Tuesday that a total of 651 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the district in the last 24 hours of which 101 were reported positive for the infection. The positivity rate has been recorded as 15.51 per cent.

The FDE declared a six days work week amid the COVID-19 surge when the ICT administration imposed a smart lockdown in various sectors and restricted the movement of residents in 27 streets in different sectors due to a COVID-19 spike and higher positivity ratio. The teachers said the most paradoxical thing was that the controlling office, FDE, was closed on Saturdays.A teacher at the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College told The News that though the monsoon arrival had provided relief to the people from hot and humid weather, infectious diseases were spreading.

WB reallocates Pakistan Rs24 27b to buy vaccines

August 4, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The World Bank has reallocated $150 million (Rs24.27) for Pakistan to procure COVID-19 vaccines, South Asia Regional Vice President (SARVP) World Bank Hartwig Schafer said on Tuesday. Talking to Minster for Finance Shaukat Tarin here, Schafer said, “The WB is fully committed to providing assistance to the developing countries for procurement of COVID-19 vaccines and for the purpose, $150 million has been re-allocated for Pakistan by the Bank”. Pakistan’s Country Director World Bank Najy Benhassine and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood were also present in the meeting. The finance minister acknowledged the significant contribution of the World Bank in the socio-economic development of the country since 1950s.

PHOTO: EXPRESS RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: In a bid to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the wake of the fourth wave of the pandemic, the Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Care Commission on Tuesday issued new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bazaars and public places in four cities of the province, including Rawalpindi. According to the notification shared by the commissioner s office, it will remain in force until August 31. As per the new SOPs, all business centres will close by 8 pm while no business will be allowed to operate on Saturdays and Sundays. Medical services, pharmacies, vaccination centres, collection points and laboratories will remain open round the clock seven days a week.
