ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched construction work on the Torkham-to-Nowshera portion of the $1.17 billion Central Asia-South Asia Regional Trade and Transmission Project (CASA-1000) on Wednesday.
A virtual launching ceremony was hosted by Dr Bandar Hajjar, president of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan.
The state-run National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) will undertake construction of a 113-kilometre electricity transmission line from the Pak-Afghan border to Nowshera. The project is to be completed by the end of next year.

Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar has wrapped up his official visit to Saudi Arabia and reported back on a number of new developments, including Saudi’s support of a historic Muslim World League summit to end the war in Afghanistan
In his report, Atmar said: “The Muslim World League shall hold a historic international conference of leading thinkers, scholars, and muftis of the Islamic World to support the cessation of hostilities, the end of bloodshed, and the success of the Afghan peace process.
“The government of Saudi Arabia announced its support for the International Ulema Conference and the global consensus to end the war in Afghanistan.
CASA-1000 Will Contribute to Energy Security, Cross Border Trade of Electricity: Omar Ayub
Federal Minister for Energy, Omar Ayub Khan, and President of Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Dr. Bandar Hajjar, inaugurated the construction of the 113-kilometer electricity transmission lines from Pak-Afghan border to Nowshera under the South Asia Central Asia Regional Trade and Transmission Project (CASA-1000) in a virtual event.
Federal Secretary Power Division, Mr. Ali Raza, and senior officials of Power Division, representatives of development partners, UN agencies, and other key stakeholders also witnessed the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Energy appreciated the efforts of Member countries, and the support of all sponsoring partners for financing the construction of power transmission lines infrastructure in Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, under the CASA-1000 Project, in particular.

Mr. Ayman Amin Sejiny, the CEO of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) (www.ICD-ps.org), the private sector arm of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Mr. Amur Safaraliyevich Djalilov, the CEO of SQB Securities LLC (www.SQBS.uz), signed a MoU for the development of Islamic finance and capital markets in Uzbekistan.
The MoU will cover the following areas of cooperation:
Conduct selective training courses on Islamic finance and its products and services for local banks and financial institutions in Uzbekistan;
