Picture it: New York City, 2014. Back when the world was “normal” and I was looking for new inspiring ways to work out and get fit, I stumbled upon this new spot, CITYROW, in Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood. It was there that my affection for rowing began.
Walking into a CITYROW class, instead of treadmills, weights, and wall-to-wall mirrors, there was one simple machine a rower. Granted, the room was full of them, and the folks in the class looked no less fit than those you might see cycling, running, or bootcamping, but what they were was a lot less pretentious. Instantly, there was a feeling of camaraderie. I knew I’d be hooked.
