Scott on Tuesday announced she is giving away more than $4 billion to 384 nonprofit agencies nationwide supporting food banks, emergency relief, education support and civil rights advocacy. Other areas organizations including the local arms of Easterseals Tennessee and Goodwill Industries also received donations, although no dollar amounts have been released yet.
The United Way of Greater Nashville board of directors is working on a strategy to invest the funds, according to a press release, and will seek input from community leaders and government sectors. The funds will be used over the next three years.
