timeline for Phase 1B of Ohio’s vaccination program, which is set to
begin next week for those ages 80 and up.
Week of January 18:
Vaccine providers will begin receiving their first allotment of
vaccines for those ages 80 and older. Vaccines will be delivered on
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Each provider will begin administering
vaccines the day after they receive their shipment. All vaccines must be
distributed within seven days.
Week of January 25:
Vaccinations are anticipated to begin for those ages 75 and up

General Motors and the state have an agreement on how the automaker will invest $12 million into the Mahoning Valley, required as part of settlement with GM for breaking job creation and retention tax credit agreements it received to retool its former Lordstown assembly plant.
Announced Thursday, the division of funding invests in workforce development, education and infrastructure in a way that builds on the area’s rich history of manufacturing as it positions itself for growth in the automotive industry, specifically in electric vehicles.
GM has committed $5 million to Youngstown State University for workforce development in partnership with Eastern Gateway Community College and funding to create the YSU Energy Storage Innovation and Training Center.

YOUNGSTOWN The Mahoning Valley Leadership Team, a coalition of elected, nonprofit, education and economic development officials, will be recognized for its efforts to boost community and economic development initiatives.
The “Commitment to Community Excellence” is presented by Communities of Excellence 2026 in partnership with the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.
A virtual ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
“Mahoning Valley community leaders involved in this effort have persevered through the challenges of 2020, and we are now prepared to move into the next phase of the Baldrige process, during which we will define specific strategic initiatives which will address equitable economic development, health and safety, and quality of life for Mahoning Valley residents,” said Jim Kinnick, executive director of Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and founding member of the leadership team.
