Summary
FPU suspended its operations in October last year which gave fishermen free rein for several months.
Mr Godfrey Ssenyonga Kambugu, the chairperson of the Association of Fishers and Lake Users of Uganda, said illegal and over fishing is partly to blame for the current situation.
Between December 2020 and February communities living in and around the shores of Lake Victoria complained of mass death of fish, especially Nile Perch, which were being washed ashore.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has said there are groups of individuals plotting violence, threatening to disrupt President Museveni’s inauguration on May 12.
Addressing journalists at Naguru Police headquarters Monday, UPDF spokesperson, Brig Flavia Byekwaso said they have got “credible information” about a section of Ugandans planning to disrupt the swearing in ceremony of the elected president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
I would like to bring to your attention the continued hate speech by a section of individuals through help of foreigners; they think they can stop the swearing-in of President Museveni, said Byekwaso .
Addressing journalists in Kampala, UPDF spokesperson Brigadier General Flavia Byekwaso said a recent intelligence-based operation has revealed a group involved in subversive activities meant to cause chaos during the May 12

She said several placards with hate messages and anti-government posters had been recovered and that the army is ready to counter the planned riots and ensure harmony.
