ROANOKE, Va. – Following a beautiful start to the week, Tuesday will be just as nice.
After starting out chilly, a breeze out of the south will be enough to push temperatures up into the 60s and 70s Tuesday afternoon.
High temperature forecast for Tuesday, 4/20/2021
Bottle that up, because big changes are on the way Wednesday. High temperatures will range from the 50s in the NRV and Highlands to 60s elsewhere. That will likely happen through midday. Once a cold front moves through, cooler air will rush in on some gusty winds. (That cooler air and northwest wind will be enough to produce snow showers on our west-facing slopes.)

ROANOKE, Va. – Following an overall pleasant weekend, Monday morning starts with some showers. These showers gradually move east throughout the morning, so that may be a bit of an issue for the commute in areas south of Interstate 81.

Clouds decrease after the rain passes, allowing for a very nice afternoon in southwest and central Virginia. Highs will range between 60 and 65° in the New River Valley. The rest of the area will top out between 65 and 70°.
Franklin County was ravaged by an EF-3 tornado two years ago today

Happy Monday and welcome to another edition of the Beyond The Forecast newsletter! It’s a bittersweet day for some folks in Franklin County as they look back at an EF-3 tornado that moved through two years ago.
The twister’s path was 8.2 miles long and 250 yards wide. It reached maximum wind speeds of 159 miles per hour and injured two people.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Blacksburg conducted the storm survey. You can read about the nitty-gritty details here.
The damage pictured in the header of this newsletter happened on Windy Ridge Road, north of Sydnorsville. Below, you see a modular home on Fishburn Mountain Road that was destroyed by the tornado.
