For the March 3 polls of the Upper House, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has fielded 16 candidates. As of Monday, the nomination papers of one candidate have been rejected by the election commission, but who are the other men and women likely to be named senators for a period of six years?

Saifullah Khan Nyazee General seat
Nyazee was born on 25 August, 1973. He is one of the oldest members of the PTI. In the past, Nyazee has held the position of additional secretary general, while right now he serves as the chief organiser in the PTI.
Today is the second death anniversary of Asma Jahangir, a human rights activist who was known for her bravery both in the courts and on the streets. Asma Jahangir passed away after a cardiac arrest in Lahore. She was 66. She was the first woman to become President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, beside heading the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. She spoken openly against the military establishment, and for rights of the Baloch and Kashmiris. In 2014, she called on Pakistan s top clerics and Islamic parties.

Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa s mobile phone has been hacked, the apex court s public relations office said on Tuesday. The cell phone of Justice Qazi Faez Isa has been hacked and there is suspicion that misguiding communication can be made from his lordship s number to anyone with ulterior motives, a press release by the Supreme Court said. Therefore, the communication purportedly made from [Justice Isa s] cell phone, which his lordship had not sent, may be treated as fake and false, it added.

The Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) on Monday expressed serious apprehensions over the delay in appointment of judges in superior courts and termed it a “major hurdle in the dispensation of justice”.
Following the third meeting of the 23rd Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, the SCBA issued a statement asserting that there was an urgent need for appointments of judges in superior courts and higher judiciary and while the Judicial Commission of Pakistan is still contemplating these appointments, there are currently more than 20 vacant posts in Punjab alone.
