MONONA, Wis. The man shot and killed by Wisconsin State Troopers near Fort Atkinson last week was a suspect in an armed bank robbery that happened the morning he was killed.
Monona police initially responded to Summit Credit Union at 5809 Monona Drive at 9:44 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery, according to a news release. When they arrived, officers learned that a man entered the bank where he made contact with two employees.
The man reportedly showed a gun and ordered the two employees to take him to the vault. The man escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The State Patrol attempted to stop a car for speeding that contained a driver and one passenger on Highway 26 between Watertown and Johnson Creek about 12:30 p.m. Dec. 9, according to a DOJ statement. The car stopped for a short time, the passenger got out and fled, and the car then drove off.
The passenger, Desmond Watkins, 22, was later apprehended. No information was available on possible charges against Watkins.
