Photo by Liz Copan / Studio Copan Rep. Joe Neguse is pushing for better funding at the federal level to support infrastructure projects in Summit County. Earlier this month, Neguse submitted several requests to the House Appropriations Committee and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in hopes of providing more widespread funding for projects across Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Summit, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand and Larimer counties along with portions of Boulder, Eagle, Jefferson, Park and Weld counties. Neguse’s requests included $12.65 million specifically for Summit County infrastructure projects, which would provide funding for the 2022 fiscal year if passed.

Raised in Minnesota, the Powells started dating after they moved to Colorado four years ago and quickly bonded over a shared love of the mountains. The couple had originally planned a large wedding in Minneapolis for December 2020, but after Covid forced them to cancel, they decided to move their nuptials to somewhere more wild.

Colorado Avalanche Information Center First responders are dealing with a particularly deadly winter. Colorado has had 11 avalanche fatalities so far, one short of the seasonal record set in 1993. The memory of a rescue mission a decade ago still haunts Charles Pitman. Recalling the image of a father and uncle praying on a mountainside for a boy of 10 or 11 while rescuers performed CPR on him, Pitman paused to gather himself, tears in his eyes. It was one of Pitman s first missions with the Summit County Rescue Group. A family had been snowmobiling on Vail Pass, only a mile or two from where Pitman stood as he described that tragic day. The boy had accidentally run the snowmobile he was driving into a tree.
