, a vocal collection of boaters aired their frustrations regarding the town’s flagship attraction: Frisco Bay Marina.
For more than 35 minutes, boaters expressed their concerns, namely those specific to this summer’s “dock island,” which floats several hundred yards offshore. The boaters also detailed other safety, communication and mismanagement concerns they’ve had with the marina over the past two years.
They said the town’s decision to keep several of the full summer slips out on dock island has resulted in inconveniences as well as safety concerns. Each winter, the marina stores the docks out on the lake before bringing them back to shore for the summer season.

Quandary Peak is pictured May 21. The 14,265-foot peak is the most popular 14er in Colorado, attracting hikers, climbers and skiers year-round, which has led to the trailhead parking lot overflowing on busy days and creating traffic issues for nearby residents.

Summit County officials, along with leaders from the town of Breckenridge, are pushing forward with some strategies to help mitigate the overcrowded parking at the Quandary Peak trailhead, but more work is to be done to ensure surrounding trailheads, including McCullough Gulch, won’t be negatively impacted.
During a Summit Board of County Commissioners work session Tuesday, July 13, Assistant County Manager Bentley Henderson updated the board on how these various strategies are coming together. The Summit Board of County Commissioners voted to return to Stage 1 fire restrictions during a special meeting Tuesday, July 6. The new restrictions will go into effect Friday, July 9.
Commissioner Tamara Pogue said the move to lower restrictions comes on the recommendation of Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons, who advocated for the change following conversations with officials throughout the region and recent changes to the county’s four restriction criteria: energy release component, fuel moisture thresholds, weather patterns and the potential for human-caused ignitions.
“We continue to base our decisions on data and science because we feel that’s the best way to let folks know we’re making wise decisions,” Pogue said. “When folks have confidence in our decisions, they’re more likely to follow those decisions.”
