COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has awarded KRDO NewsChannel 13 with three prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
KRDO was awarded for excellence in three categories, Breaking News Coverage, Investigative Reporting and Digital.

13 Investigates received an award for our ongoing investigation into illicit massage businesses with ties to human trafficking. Our reporting has prompted Colorado Springs police to change the way they investigate the illegal businesses
KRDO also won recognition for our efforts on KRDO.com and social media, including our online voter’s guide, live stream of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and consistent reporting on COVID-19 updates in Colorado.
Times-News journalists win awards in NC Press Association contest

The North Carolina Press Association presented the Times-News with writing and photography awards Friday during its live-streamed annual convention in Raleigh.
Winners of the association’s 2020 News, Editorial and Photojournalism Contest were recognized for work published from October 2019 through Sept. 30, 2020. Out-of-state judges selected the winners.
Sports Editor Dean Hensley took first place in the Video category for A Farewell to the Old Gym Planned at Hendersonville High.
News reporter Rebecca Walter won second place in Business Writing for her article, Housing market adapts during COVID-19 changes.
Former staff photographer Patrick Sullivan took third place in Feature Photography for his photo gallery, 14th annual DuPont Rescue Experience.
Asheville Citizen Times wins journalism honors for outstanding work

The Asheville Citizen Times was honored with 16 awards from the North Carolina Press Association Friday night in a virtual ceremony held in lieu of the annual convention and banquet.
Among the awards were several first place honors for staff reporters Mackensy Lunsford and David Thompson, and for photojournalist Angela Wilhelm.
Asheville competes in a category that includes newspapers in Wilmington, Durham, Salisbury and Greenville, among others.
“Last year was such a challenging time for us in so many ways, not just the pandemic,” Citizen Times Executive Editor Jewell Walston said. “It is encouraging to know that through those times of transition, furloughs and attacks on journalists, all while navigating COVID-19, that our talented staff could still focus on great work and produce purposeful and impactful journalism.”

The Commonwealth Journal has cause to celebrate this week after staff learned the newspaper took Second Place in its category for General Excellence at the annual Kentucky Press Associationâs contest.
The Somerset newspaper is part of the Daily Division 2 in the contest.
Editor Jeff Neal described learning of the paperâs accomplishments after what has been an emotional week for the staff.
âI am very proud of the Commonwealth Journal staff. Itâs dedicated to bringing its readers the best coverage of local news in the state,â Neal said. âItâs fitting that on the week our humble reporter, Bill Mardis, left us, that the CJ placed second in General Excellence and won several awards in the KPA contest. I know Bill would be proud.â
