Individuals honored for exemplary personal, professional achievements
The University of Delaware will recognize five individuals with its highest accolade, the honorary degree, during Commencement ceremonies in Newark, scheduled May 28-30.
Approved by the Universityâs Board of Trustees, the honorary degree is presented to individuals who reflect, in their personal and professional achievements, the Universityâs mission and who serve as exemplars for UDâs students, alumni, the University community and the world.

Patricia DeLeon, honorary doctor of science degree. DeLeon is Trustees Distinguished Professor Emerita of Biological Sciences at UD and a past recipient of the Universityâs Francis Alison Award in recognition of her scholarship and teaching. Her degree will be presented at the Class of 2021 Comm

Jennifer Galotti, of Yorktown Hts, graduated from The University of Tampa on Saturday, May 8. Galotti graduated with a Bachelor of Science - B.S. Degree in Education-Elementary (K-6).
The virtual commencement ceremony included 1,781 undergraduate and graduate candidates. The ceremony included remarks by UT President Ronald Vaughn, James S. MacLeod, chair of UT s Board of Trustees, the deans of UT s four colleges and student challenge speakers. Additionally, each graduate received a personalized video commemorating their achievement.

Plans have been in the works for several years to replace the existing Carousel, which dates to the 1950s and started with the intent of being a temporary structure.
The venue is a sentimental favorite among audiences, but it s aging and has limited and primitive accommodations for actors backstage and can become cramped when trying to put on a play with a larger cast.
Recent shows there have included People Where They Are, Hamlet and Detroit 67.
The new structure will remain small and intimate but it ll be up-to-date technologically and able to accommodate the demands of productions in the 21st century.
