Tri-County health officials on Wednesday reported 99 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, but no new deaths linked to the pandemic for a second straight day.
Meanwhile, more than 60,000 area residents are now considered fully vaccinated, including about 1,600 in the past day.
The new infections bring the region’s total since the start of the pandemic to 35,251, while the death toll remains at 590 with only one fatality in the past week.
Seven of the 25 coronavirus patients currently in Peoria-area hospitals are being treated in intensive care units, and about 700 infected individuals are isolating at home.

Tri-County health officials on Monday reported one new death linked to COVID-19 in the past three days, while state records show close to 7,700 vaccine doses administered since Friday.
The area’s latest resident to succumb to the pandemic was a Peoria County man in his 60s. The region’s death toll over the past year is now 590, while the case count increased to 35,082 with 172 new infections reported since last week.
Six of the 27 patients with COVID at Peoria-area hospitals remain in intensive care units, while 351 people are isolating at home. Active cases have fallen by 82% in the past five weeks.
