The Utah Women & Leadership Project hosted a panel of people who work in various areas to stop violence against women and children on Feb.17.
According to the panel, nearly one in two women will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. This rate is also true for Utah.

“In order for us to create compassionate communities, with respect, equity and justice, one should do our work thinking of that person or child who is valued the least,” she said.
The panel also addressed recent data from the CDC, which states that 11.3% of high school girls in Utah report being raped before they graduate. This is higher than the reported national average. For sexual assault, 21.2% of girls in Utah have reported being sexually assaulted in the last 12 months.

Legislative leaders have said that 2021 should be “the year of the tax cut.” Numerous public opinion surveys show that Utahns disagree. This may come as a surprise to policymakers, who have been in the habit of handing out tax break after tax break for decades. But there seems to be an increasing public awareness that Utah is now paying a price for decades of tax cutting that have left us with the lowest overall tax level in 50 years relative to Utah personal income.

Michael Taylor Robinson, 27, of Provo, is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, 27-year-old Freya Larsen, on May 7, 2019. Family members say the two had a history of domestic violence and that Larsen was planning on moving away.
Robinson is charged with murder, a first-degree felony. He has remained in jail since his arrest. A jury trial that was supposed to happen in January was canceled due to concerns over COVID-19. Robinson s next court date is scheduled for March 4.
