Direct care workers at Utah State Hospital could probably earn higher wages flipping burgers at a fast-food restaurant, the facility’s director acknowledges. They are paid $11 an hour. Staffers are responsible for dressing and bathing patients at the psychiatric care facility in Provo. They take people to medical appointments or accompany them to group activities. Most importantly, they fill round-the-clock shifts watching out for those who are at risk of harming themselves or others.

Micro quake reported in northeast Utah © Provided by KUTV Salt Lake City Residents of the small town of Paradise, Utah might have felt a small rumbling on Thursday evening.  The University of Utah Seismograph Station recorded a 2.4 magnitude micro quake southeast of the town at 6:26 p.m.  The Utah Division of Emergency Management says the earthquake was most likely too small to be felt by most people.  UUSS recorded another micro quake earlier on Thursday, southwest of West Yellowstone, Montana. It was measured at 2.28 magnitude.  Between Jan. 14 and Jan. 27, 52 earthquakes were recorded in the Utah region monitored by the U s seismograph station, with magnitudes ranging from 0.2 to 2.6. The largest of those was a magnitude 2.6 on Jan. 18 measured near Colorado City, Ariz.

On Wednesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the president signed a major disaster declaration on Jan. 12 for the damage done by a windstorm on Sept. 7 and 8, which impacted northern Utah. The declaration means FEMA funds will be available to entities in Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Morgan counties.
