Fish Dropped From Plane to Restock Remote Utah Lakes
The wildlife division stocked around 200 remote lakes that are not accessible by vehicle across the state in early June.
BOLDER MOUNTAIN, Utah - Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources released footage of an airplane dropping fish into a remote lake in the Boulder Mountain region.

A Plane in Utah Lets the Fish Fly
A viral video shows fish bursting out of a small plane, highlighting a method the state has used for more than a half-century to restock lakes.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said that last week it used planes to stock about 200 lakes that are inaccessible by vehicle. The division said it had stocked fish by air since the 1950s and that the fish had a high survival rate.CreditCredit.Utah Division Of Wildlife Resources, via Reuters

The sky was blue, the trees were green a perfect day to be flying above a sparkling lake in southern Utah. A door at the bottom of a small plane opened, and thousands of fish burst out in a torrent of water, their bodies twirling as they cascaded into the lake below.
CEDAR CITY Just over four dozen rainbow trout were found dead around the water at Lake at the Hills near Cedar City.
The group that found the 50 fish reported it to authorities as poaching. But, that wasn t the case. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said it s actually due to warm water temperatures.
And it turns out, finding dozens of dead trout during the summer season isn t abnormal. It happens every year, said Richard Hepworth, aquatics manager with the DWR Southern Region office.
Warm water threshold for trout
Hepworth said rainbow trout don t like warm water. Once the water temperature reaches 70 degrees, they will begin to die off.

The extreme way they stock some lakes in Utah, US.
Fish are being dropped by the thousands from planes over lakes in Utah, US, and footage of the aerial descent has become a guilty pleasure on social media. State officials say the strange, but officially sanctioned, practice is part of an ”extreme fish stocking” programme that dumps up to 35,000 fish at a time over “high elevation lakes across the state”. Video of a recent drop shows the fish are literally spewed from the underbelly of planes – and then free-fall to earth. “The fish are between 1-3 inches (2.5-7.6cm) long, so they flutter down slowly to the water,” the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources reported. “These lakes are not accessible by vehicle and other means of stocking.”

Hallelujah, it s raining fish!
A new video from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources shows a plane dropping thousands of fish into a lake.
The move is to replenish waterways located in higher locations.
A reported 35 thousand fish can be carried by a single plane.
The agency wrote on the Youtube video of the event, We used to load fish into milk cans and we needed horses to get us into these remote areas. The aerial method of stocking is much quicker and less stressful for the fish.
