Super rare wolverine spotted in Utah again, this time in West Layton neighborhood

Super rare wolverine spotted in Utah again, this time in West Layton neighborhood Replay Video UP NEXT With only a handful of wolverine sightings in Utah since 1979, including an animal hit by a car and animal tracks, another elusive predator sighting was reported Thursday, this one in a West Layton neighborhood. It s hard to say which recent sighting was more unlikely, the one when an animal was spotted and photographed on May 5 at the Great Salt Lake, or the one that trotted across a lawn and was captured by a doorbell camera Thursday, and then later spotted again by humans on an early morning walk. Wildlife officials would love anybody who sees one to call 801-476-2740 as quickly as possible, or even 911.

Rare wolverine sighting in Layton may be same animal spotted in May

LAYTON Talk about an encore. State wildlife officials say a Utah wolverine caught on camera running near a west Layton home before it was spotted again on a nearby trail Thursday morning may be the same wolverine that was seen near Antelope Island on May 4. Either way, the incident may just be the best documentation of wolverines in state history, said Mark Hadley, the northern Utah outreach manager for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. We ve been out looking for them for many, many, many years using trail cameras and things and this is the best sighting we ve had so far, he said. It s really rare. You just don t see them in the state of Utah very often.
